Moth Night at CVSP
May 29 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm
FREEEvent Navigation
Due to weather this event has been postponed to its backup date, Thursday, May 29th.
Interested in learning about our local moth populations and how to find them? Join us to learn from club member and local expert, Colleen Wolpert.
We will be meeting at the Pine Plains Shelter where we will have multiple types of moth light stations set up. We will also have educational materials on hand. After a brief introduction to moths Colleen will answer your questions.
Reminders:
• Watch your step around extension cords.
• Attendees with children, please be attentive during the program. Some equipment used will be HOT. Please don’t touch the equipment.
• Please do not handle moths or other insects. Colleen may handle some of the insects to show folks, but we ask that participants do not touch any insects for both your safety and the safety of the critters.
• Do not use any insect repellent! This will keep the moths away. Any product containing Permethrin will kill moths! There might be an opportunity to hold a Cecropia moth to release, so come pesticide-free.
• Wear dark colors and long sleeves. Black light to be used. Tuck your pants into your socks. Tie back long hair or wear a hat. The moths (and other critters) like to get tangled in loose hair.
• Tick Notice: Always perform a tick check following outdoor activities. We ask that you don’t use bug spray as it repels and/or kills moths that we will be drawing in. Since our program is after sunset there is no entrance fee at the park.
Weather: If the weather looks unfavorable for the evening of our event, we will post cancellation information on our Facebook page and our website no later than 2:30pm on the day of the event.
Back up date for this event is Thursday, May 29.
